Introduction
Project Renaissance, called Proj Ren by most if its students, is a full year course at the University at Albany. Students must apply and be accepted to Proj Ren, students accepted to the university can apply on the UAlbany website. Proj Ren acceptes about 400 students annually on a first-come, first-served basis. The program is open to freshman only.
Students in Proj Ren have several choices in their area of study. I am currently in the General Program. Students in Proj Ren live in suites in Mohawk Tower on Indian Quad. Class is held in several locations, many times in classrooms in the tower with special classes in computer labs and lecture centers. Classes may meet by floor or in one large group, depending on the day's topic.
Proj Ren is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:15 in the morning to 1:05 in the afternoon. There is a 15 minute break, normally around 11:45 to noon. The class is a 6 credit course and through the entire year fulfills six separate General Education requirements.
I am currently in my second semester of Proj Ren. Over the next six weeks I expect to report weekly on the assignments in class, what the students are saying about the class and everything else I can think of relating to Proj Ren. I will try not to censor myself and give you the real deal. After all, the Proj Ren teachers came up with this project so they can't punish me for being candid, right?
